Weekend rain brings severe flooding to Clyde, nearly reaching residents’ front doors

CLYDE, Texas — The rain from this past weekend brought flooding to much of the Big Country, but for some people in Clyde, the flooding almost made it to their front door.

“It flooded all the way up to this ramp,” Clyde resident, Martha Johnson, said. “Then it went all the way, uh, three quarters the way up my yard here, and around the backside, and all the way up to the corner of the apartment. And it was really really, if it would’ve kept raining, I probably would’ve asked for a boat.”

Johnson told us that this isn’t the first time she’s experienced floods like this in Clyde.

“That was the second time, or the third time that’s happened that way since I’ve been here,” Johnson said. “And I’ve been here over 25 years.”

Johnson also told us that after it floods, there are dips in the road near her home that will hold water for weeks.

She said the standing water causes a really bad mosquito problem in the area.

“That’s why I stay inside,” she said. “Because of all the mosquitos, and that’s worse.”

Some ways you can protect your home from flooding is by using flood barriers and ensuring all foundation cracks are sealed.
