Novak Djokovic’s quarterfinal match against American Sebastian Korda at the Miami Open has been postponed to Thursday after Wednesday’s games ran over schedule.
Fans who waited until the end of the WTA quarterfinal between Jessica Pegula and Emma Raducanu to watch the Serbian in action were told at 11.30 pm local time that the game was being rescheduled.
“In accordance with ATP rules that do not allow for a match to go on court after 11 pm, the match between Novak Djokovic and Sebastian Korda has been postponed until tomorrow and will be the third match from 1pm,” the Miami Open organisers said in a statement.
Fans were told they could buy tickets for the afternoon session for a discounted price of $10 but booed the announcement as they left the arena.
The 37-year-old Djokovic is three victories from a record-breaking seventh Miami trophy. If he captures his first title at the hard-court event since winning at Crandon Park in 2016, it would also mark Djokovic’s 100th tour-level crown. Korda, 24, aims for his third Masters 1000 semifinal.
The winner of this fixture is expected to face Grigor Dimitrov, who outlasted No. 23 seed Francisco Cerundolo 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3) earlier in the day.
